Solar Flash Steam Cannon Solar Powered Gun Trough Mirror Fresnel Lens

on Jul 03 in Lowes DIY

This is the trough mirror and a Fresnel Lens set. The water was shot in with a hose to produce flash steam. Ball bearing were used as ammo. A few modifications from this learning experience and we can launch 200 yards.

    you little devil!

  • johnnecron says:

you did not try to hook this up to a steam engine because you discovered that once water goes through your rube goldberg device it soon cooled down and no longer produced continuous steam for the engine.
you in the yard playing with water when you could be doing something far more exciting.

I was glad to see Denise show up at the end and deliver her message or reason, and safety.

Dan, after 30 years in the trenches, I reccomend you try this…

I’m sorry, you were right, I was wrong, it’ll never happen again…

Seriously though, if we are ever under attack by aliens in styrofoam ships I know who I’m gonna be hangin’ with.

    Peace.

Good Job! Now Yer Talkin’ !! It doesn’t get fun until you put some danger in it !!

Just wondering if you have a flow check valve on the water line just before it goes into the pipe. Maybe you can get more kick. If that steam preasure is greater than the water preasure in your hose it may be loosing some preasure back into the hose and lessening the initial kick.

Try extending the barrel about 3 ft. & only push shot in 3 ft. creating a larger expansion chamber before contacting the shot.

Dan, you always have some very interesting experiments to demonstrate or test. Some work while others are complete failures, but at least you are up front about it. You are so fortunate to have such a beautiful wife to console you on the failures and bandage all the cuts, bruises and blisters you get. Both of you keep up the good work! Truly enjoy your videos!

  • sjh7132 says:

Doesn’t a lot of the pressure just go out the pipe that’s bringing the water in? Or is there a one way valve?

  • smokeystriper says:

Well Denise, you asked what the experiment was for. the simple answer is all guys like any thing that goes really far, really fast, really loud, or any combination of the three. If you need an example just ask your self why NASA chose to hit the moon with a ” probe” or why NASCAR is so popular. We’re easy to amuse. :)
