As of now only 0.05% of the world’s electricity is generated from solar power plants. However, scientists and the public are looking to have more of the world’s energy come from solar power plants. It is estimated that solar energy could generate 2.5 percent of the world’s electricity by 2025. Companies like Pacific Crest Transformers are taking an active interest in this reliable source of alternate energy. For more information visit their website.
HARNESSING! Harnessing solar energy. The media often explains things poorly and spreading confusion.
developing LOW COST flat PV cells will be more benificial in the long term! Remember the saying “Keep It Simple Sonny” How much maintance will be needed on all that mechanical stuff for tracking, not to mention keeping the mirrors clean and aligned
idk about this one. we need to use tesla coils./
I bet that sweater he’s wearing is pretty warm… haha…
what exactly is the innovation? concentrating sunlight is as old as solar voltaic. solar power is silly anyway. Its weather dependend and notoriously refuses to work during the night. geothermal power has none of those disadvantages, is available on every place on the planet (you dont need cables running over miles) and needs a fraction of energy to build compared to solar voltaic per kWh.
concentrated solar pv is pointless…….. it will never genrate enough power.
concentrated solar thermal is the way forward.
Bill Gross 1:40 is ceo of esolar as well which uses the thermal variety to generate power in 5MW module for utility electricity.
sadly for us , hurray for capital concentration
sadly both men dissapeared and company burned to the ground. go figure
Special oil not water.
I was searching for this comment!
YES! Why not to use a dish???!!! Any kind of dish! Even prime focus is OK! Just replace receiver with solar element, make mirros serface of dish (stainless still) and point it to the sun! Easy and the same concept! Ofcause it will be more expensive than Sat TV dish because dish should have rotator and be pointed always to the sun.
That’s a pretty good idea actually.. especially on cloudy days. I wonder whether or not the panels can spend years in the blazing sun, though. I mean it must get hundreds of degrees
they’ve already had something similar to that for a while now, except that the mirrors were used to concentrate the suns energy to boil water and then make energy when the steam would rotate huge turbins
all this because? seems alot like the perabolic versions but much more complex.
lol wana know the funny part i alrdy live in pasadena california lol so i dont have to come.
Excellent! I hope for all human kinds sake that this works!
I think that you’d be able to get more light from the same sized mirror with a bowl shape. They’re probably more worried about price than size though.
Flat mirrors are just glass on metal, a bowl that can focus decently is probably smaller but more expensive for the same amount of light..
If I’ve understood, you’re saying something like; take an electric motor (which turns electromagnetism into movement) then hook it up to an electric generator (which turns movement into electromagnetism).
The problem is that the electromagnet is using electricity, then giving it to the generator in the form of movement, which the generator then turns into electricity.
There is no source of new power being produced, you’re just passing it around and adding nothing.
crap technology, nobody is gonna clean all those mirrors, lets be realistic.
Save Earth – Destroy Sol
What waste of money. You can use a satilight dish with mirrors would do the same thing. With a tracker. Is this the best solar tec company can do. I would not invest in their prototype because it has been done, twenty years ago. No new tec here.
I have an idea…..
Why dont we eliminate the saltwater, flame and sterling engine..
Take the ocillating electrical energy only…and through a system of electro magnets and a rotating shaft have it produce propulsive power… We take the rotating shaft, connect to a generater AND WAHLA!… We kiss the electric companies and the Arabs goodbye!
>renewable solar energy
Wouldn’t a piece of silicon, (at the temperatures a focussed sun can reach), melt and vapourise !!! ???
gee , I can feel the love in here (not) Good , bad or indifferent , renewables are the way to go , regards from down under in oz
